Bouncing The Ball

In the early stages of learning tennis, bouncing the ball on the racket is a highly effective and versatile practice method.

To start, we can use the Continental grip to bounce the ball upwards on the flat face of the racket. A good initial goal is to achieve 20 consecutive bounces. For adults, reaching 20 bounces should be relatively simple and can be quickly mastered with a bit of practice.

During this training, two points need attention:

  1. Try to keep your wrist stable, using your body’s up and down movement and the swinging of your upper arm to control the direction and force of the racket’s contact with the ball.
  2. Control and understand the racket face angle. Since the current goal is to bounce the ball upwards, you need to adjust the racket face to face upwards.

Ball bouncing can be varied: you can bounce with your forehand or backhand; you can bounce with a flat hit or with a slice.
