Switching between forehand and backhand grips

In the early stages of learning tennis, changing your grip is not the most crucial aspect. You can first try the transition method that feels most fluid and comfortable for you. If you experience any hitches or delays during the transition, then refer to this guide.

Method to switch from forehand to single-handed backhand:

Using the right hand as an example, first lightly grip the neck of the racket with your left hand. Release your right hand, and use your left hand to rotate the racket, adjusting it to the right-hand backhand grip position.

Method to switch from forehand to two-handed backhand:

Murray and Djokovic's ready positions

Using the right hand as an example, first slide your left hand down to the two-handed backhand grip position, then use your left hand to rotate the racket, adjusting it to the right-hand backhand grip position. Alternatively, you can start with a forehand grip for forehand shots and a backhand grip for backhand shots, directly rotating the racket with your left hand when switching to backhand.

This is not the only method. Each person’s ready position is different, so the transition process will also vary.

However, regardless of the method, the transition should be completed as quickly as possible. Otherwise, you may not have enough time to complete the subsequent hitting motion
